GE-AsiaMedic Partnership: Providing Leading-Edge Cancer Diagnosis

In this ONEhealthcare spotlight from January 2006, Dr Dominic Er, then director and CEO of AsiaMedic, describes the centre’s investment in advanced diagnostic technology. In 2003, AsiaMedic committed S$8 million to three top-of-the-line machines, including GE Medical Systems’ Discovery ST8 PET/CT scanner.

AsiaMedic became the first centre outside the US, and the fifth worldwide, to install the eight-slice PET/CT system. The scanner takes two- and three-dimensional images of the whole body in one scan, which improves early cancer detection.
